Art installations in de Brakke Grond

We gave Bernke Klein Zandvoort technical support for some small installations. They were in the Rietveld Uncut exhibition in de Brakke Grond. We programmed an arduino with LED, put together a delayed servo mechanism and helped with some light-experiments.

Last week Bernke displayed some variations on these workes at the graduation exhibition 2011 at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, which is what she graduated with. Congrats!

Artbomb was an initiative of art organisations to protest against the growing disdain for the arts and also against the government art budget cuts. The idea was to bring as many colored smoke bombs  in the air as possible, at 12 PM.

We made this infographic to show our support.

Playing with Processing.js

Out of a desire to bring a special christmas card, I began playing around with Processing.js. But of course, my plans were too ambitious – I worked with animations out of photographs, and they were way too heavy to be running in a browser. So here you have just the image, and the code (.zip).

kerstkaart

When you hover over the christmas balls, they start to rock. The chair is empty, the cat walks in and sits on it after hovering. On the ground there is a rail on which a train rides. The lamp starts to shine after touching it…

Art installation Je naaste

Printplaatjes did some electrical engineering and programming for the art installation ‘Je naaste’, rietveld student Roberta Petzoldt’s work. The beamed video starts to play, as soons as someone sits on the chair. Because the viewer’s silhoutte falls on the canvas, the image of Roberta becomes visible, and she starts a monologue. The installation was in the graduation exhibition 2010 at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and also in the Media Art Festival in Leeuwarden. We used an arduino with pressure sensor and OpenFrameworks.
